Bandit, oil on wood panel, 16″x16″

bandit small

Hi everyone. This is one of many pet portrait commissions I’ve gratefully had this holiday season.  My client hired me to do this portrait of his family’s beloved dog, Bandit. Bandit is a 16 x 16 inch oil painting and done on wood panel. I prefer wood panel over canvas because it allows me to achieve the detail I’m striving for. The 10% donation for Bandit’s commission was sent to Rutherford County Humane Society of North Carolina; a wonderful organization!

I’m booked up for the rest of the holidays. However, if you know of a loved one that might like a portrait of their four-legged friend, I have gift certificates available. Thank you!

Ozzie, graphite, 10″x 8″

Ozzie was commissioned as a gift. Ozzie’s people are big supporters of animal welfare and volunteer much of their time to helping animals. They have several dogs and cats, all of whom live the good life. This is probably one of my favorite portraits so far. It is done in pencil on Yupo which is a very smooth synthetic paper designed for watercolor. I find it works especially well with pencil because it allows me to get the details in the fur. It is quite unforgiving though, so I have to work with great caution!

Samson and Hercules, pastel on toned paper, 8×10 inches

pastel pet portraits

Drawing Samson and Hercules was such a wonderful experience for me. Their person, Jannes is one of the kindest people I have ever met and is a true animal lover. She commissioned this portrait for her husband’s Father’s Day gift. It brought tears to everyone’s eyes (including mine,) as both pups have passed on but they were loved dearly.

I donate 10% of all commissions to animal welfare and Jannes chose Blind Cat Rescue  in St.Pauls, NC. Jannes had her own blind and deaf kitty named Bella. She’s devoted an entire Facebook page to her story. It will give you chills, the love is so apparent. Here’s her story and her Facebook page. Get ready to shed some tears of joy!

Here’s a great photo of Jannes’ husband, Ricky, with his gift.
